Off Campus Activities

Shabbatonim

Shabbat at Neveh is a fun, meaningful and unifying experience.  Off-campus Shabbatonim take place in neighborhoods throughout Israel enabling our students to meet Jews from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures.  Our program is enhanced by renowned lecturers, spirited discussions and visits to local attractions. The Rebbeim and students work together to create a warm family atmosphere wherever we spend Shabbat. Students are encouraged to share the Torah they have learned providing a natural opportunity to develop self-confidence and public –speaking skills.

Operation Mirrer

On Thursday nights Neveh students are given the opportunity to learn mishmar at the Mir Yeshivah in Jerusalem with Neveh alumni.

This is a very powerful experience and introduces them to the taste of learning in a strong yeshivish environment.  The experience is enhanced by cholent and other refreshments served in the Mir.

This program perpetuates the memory of Rami Behar (Yerachmiel ben Nissim Meir) who applied to Neveh Zion and yet was tragically killed in a car accident before he was able to board the plane.   Rami’s 2 older brothers Eli and Avi are both Neveh alumni – Eli has a degree in social work, he lives in Israel and and counsels at Neveh.

Trips

A year in Israel is an unparalleled opportunity for discovery and growth.  To maximize this experience we schedule both day trips and overnights frequently throughout the year. Challenging hikes and water sports, biking and rappelling combine a healthy workout with the opportunity to build team spirit and develop a love for Eretz Yisrael.  We’re always accompanied by a seasoned tour guide as well as a guard to ensure safety at all times.

Reaching out and Helping Others

Reaching out to others is an essential component of Jewish life.  Performing acts of chessed is a daily requirement -- which means it is a lifetime requirement.  This is most succinctly manifested in the act of giving.   To sharpen the focus on kindness and reaching out to others our students are encouraged to think of ways in which they can be of service to other people.

The following are examples of the organizations and projects our students are involved with:

  • Yad Eliezer provides food and financial assistance to over 50,000 people of all backgrounds across Israel.  Our students help them weekly packing food packages for needy families
  • Helping with special needs children in Telzstone.  The students help alleviate the burden of the parents by working with the kids and playing with them.  Their assistance has caused a marked improvement in the progress of these children.  In the case of hospitalization our students have spent many nights at their bedsides tending to their needs.
  • The Yamim Tovim give ample opportunities for thinking of others and our students are keenly aware of how they can be of service.  Whether putting up succas or helping to clean for Pesach our students are very eager to be of assistance.
  • During the Gulf War the students were very aware of the difficulty that the gas masks placed on elderly and infirm people.  They were on call constantly to assist those who had difficulty wearing them.
